UNIT I EXERCISE
Answer before scrolling to the solution. For each response, give the concept, scenario evidence, and a reason. Self-score each original numbered question or named part: 0 = missing/incorrect, 1 = correct label without reasoning, 2 = correct explanation using evidence. Rework every answer below 2. The solution is one defensible model, not wording to memorize; clearly stated alternative assumptions can support a different answer.
This exercise covers all of Unit I: Chapters 1, 2, and 3.
Try answering without looking back first. Work through the scenario in your own words, then compare with the complete solution below.

SCENARIO
Without looking back, explain this scenario from beginning to end:
A prospect requests 50 desks. The company has 15 finished desks. It manufactures 20 more but lacks material for the remaining 15, so Purchasing obtains the missing material. Production makes the final 15 desks, bringing finished stock to 50 (15 opening + 20 first batch + 15 second batch). The warehouse delivers them, Finance invoices the customer, and the customer later reports one damaged desk. Only 35 new desks are manufactured.
This scenario deliberately crosses sales, manufacturing, purchasing, inventory, accounting, and support. It is designed to test whether you can think in integrated ERP terms rather than isolated app terms.
YOUR TASK
For items 1–5 identify records and the departments that act on them. For item 6 give the finished-goods balance at each step and distinguish reservation from movement. For items 7–8 separate invoicing, settlement, complaint, and remedy. For items 9–10 explain how shared identity connects the processes. Add a Chapter 2 sentence under item 4 choosing an edition/hosting approach for an assumed custom manufacturing addon and explaining company access. State whether payment has actually been reported in the scenario.
Identify:
- master data,
- transactions,
- departments,
- applications,
- likely document flow,
- where inventory changes,
- where financial records appear,
- where Helpdesk appears,
- where single-source-of-truth thinking matters,
- whether this is one business process or multiple connected processes.
